Saba Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SABA) dropped nearly 15% today, or $1.41 to close at $8.01 on higher than average volume (1.33M shares vs. daily average of 80k). The company announced Q4 earnings last night after the close and disappointed investors by coming in at a loss instead of positive earnings.

On the call, the company mentioned shifting from a license model of software to SaaS, cloud services for all new customers in fiscal 2012. They’re also investing resources to build capacity into Canada, India, and China. Still, investors never like a surprise, and seem focused on the bottom line. CFO Bill Slater said on the conference call:

We expect to incur greater losses in the first half of the year returning to profitability by the end of the year. We anticipate cash flow from operations to be positive for the year.

Street Insider wrote of the earnings:

Saba reported Q4 EPS of ($0.10), $0.13 worse than the analyst estimate of $0.03. Revenue for the quarter came in at $30 million versus the consensus estimate of $30.76 million.

Saba Software, Inc. sees FY2012 EPS of $-0.17-$-0.23, versus the consensus of $-0.06. Saba Software, Inc. sees FY2012 revenue of $130-$133 million, versus the consensus of $127.61 million.
