Does Zeebo’s website reveals refocus on education.

Zeebo, Inc.’s edutainment platform scored $17-million according to TechCrunch via a SEC filing. Once upon a time, the San Diego, Calif.-based Zeebo wanted to sell cheap consoles (read: $165-$190) to BRIC countries like China, Brazil and Mexico. Zeebo had big aspirations for entertainment and education. The idea was promising because it was a 3G wireless machine which would allow for secure internet and downloading software.

But content offerings became heavy on the entertainment, and education got lost in the racing and sports games. Now, there’s plenty to learn for eye-hand-coordination, but not much beyond that. That business model does not seemed to have led anywhere, and the Zeebo game-box business is getting the axe.

The company says it will be releasing a new platform in 2012. If the Zeebo website is any indication of the new platform, the next $17-million will be aimed at re-focusing the company on educational offerings, to “bring interactive education to emerging markets around the world, with near-term operations and business interests centered on India.”

Stay tuned, this may be worth watching.
