Clayton Christenson: Idiot-Proofing Harvard for the Masses

Dr. Clayton Christenson

Christenson says Harvard business school needs to make its content idiot-proof so the school can make more money. And he says disruption is under way at the B-school.

The going rate to hire a Harvard MBA is $160,000 said Clay Christenson, Harvard professor and disruptive innovation guru. But that’s not the problem. The problem said Christenson, is the “others”— the people who couldn’t make the Harvard cut. Companies like GE and J&J have in-house management training.

“For the first time in my own academic life, I think we’ve been able to articulate why it is so many universities in the future are going to run into trouble in continuing to do things the way they’ve always done,” said Christenson.

Christenson said Harvard could lose its position as thought leader if the GE and J&J market managers realize the education they provide employees is good enough.
