United States University Receives $810,000 Scholarship Donation From Clifford

Michael and Lindsey Clifford are arranging for $810,000 to a $2.4 million scholarship program for the United States University, a mostly online institution which Clifford helped sponsor and organize. The fund will provide up to 200 scholarships in the California Resident Scholarship Program.

We have a couple of questions for the Cliffords: Are these full scholarships? How much will they fund per student?

But we applaud the idea and suggest that it challenges other for-profit schools to find, fund and create private endowment funds to make education more affordable for their students. Here are other details from a press release the Cliffords released:

The scholarships are for online undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate programs are in management, nursing (RN to BSN), health science and general studies. Graduate programs are in business administration, nursing administration and nursing education.

All California residents are eligible.

Other contributions to the $2.4 million scholarship program are providing similar scholarships for Hispanic students and for military students.

United States University has two Southern California campuses (San Diego and Orange County) and several programs on the Internet. Founded as InterAmerican College in 1997, it is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and the California Board of Registered Nursing.

For more information on the scholarships, visit www.usuniversity.edu (Financial Aid — Scholarships) or call (888) 422-3381.
