A national network of admissions experts based in New York called Aristotle Circle purchased the tutoring service Peer2Peer, which operates in New Jersey, Connecticut and Washington D.C. Aristotle wants to double the company’s size by the end of 2012 according to company officials. Peer2Peer founder Erik Kimel said Peer2Peer has employed 5,000 high school students since it launched in 2004. It plans to create 5,000 student jobs this year, including 100 in New York City. Sophia Hollander writes in The Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Kimel founded Peer2Peer as a high school senior, investing $50 he had earned serving pizza to buy an ad in the local paper. He parlayed one response into a business that earned $750,000 last year, he confirmed.

Last year, the company received 2,000 applications for 500 tutoring slots. There are strict grade cutoffs—tutors must earn at least a 3.7 unweighted GPA—and multiple interview rounds.

“In five years I hope that we are the leading job creator for students in our country,” said Mr. Kimel, now 25 years old, who will become Aristotle Circle’s chief strategy officer and continue to direct the peer program. “The Aristotle team brought something to Peer2Peer that would enable us to achieve our goals faster.”
